Driving License Category A2
The A2 category of driving license permits the use of motorcycles without sidecars, with the maximum engine output of 35 kW. The power/weight ratio of the vehicle must not exceed 0.2kW/kg.
The step-bystep procedure for this driving licence allows you to get your first motorcycle driving licence earlier and to gradually climb up to higher engine power with the A2 license.
Scooters and motorcycles
Driving license category A2 is the next level of a motorcycle driving license. It allows you to drive mopeds and small motorcycles up to 50cc. The goal of the class is to let you slowly climb the ladder of engine power and to savor the possibility of the possibility of a bigger one. The test is more difficult and requires more theory.
The category A2 driving licence is valid until the age of 24. It can be used together with a category A1 car driver's licence or as part a provisional driver's license. If you're over 24 years old, however you require a full category A driving licence to drive motorcycles that have more than 35 kW.
You can get your group A1 licence at 16 years old (in Denmark, Malta, and Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic; in Germany, Hungary, Iceland and in the following countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Italy and Poland). Once you are over the age of 16 you'll need to pass the A2 category motorbike test. You need to pass the test before reaching the age of 18. After two years, you are able to be upgraded to category A.
After passing the test in category A2, you are permitted to ride a motorcycle, either with or without a sidecar, and vehicles with up to 35 kW of power. These vehicles must have a power/weight that is not greater than 0.02 kW/kg, and cannot be derived directly from a vehicle that has twice the maximum power.
If you've completed the two-part test for a moped or motorcycle of a lower category since 1st Jul 1996, you may bypass the theory test and take only the practical exam. You can ride a small moped or scooter that has L plates or you can obtain the new

Motor vehicles with 4 wheels
This category covers all motor vehicles with four wheels that are not buses or passenger cars. It also covers utilitarian vehicles such as pickups, panels and vans. Motorhomes, campers and lorries are also included. This category could also include vehicles like ambulances, hearses and carryalls, which are designed to accommodate more than eight persons or have a maximum permissible mass of 750 kg. Drivers with an A1 licence are permitted to operate vehicles of this kind with trailers that have the maximum authorized mass of up to 775kg.
You must have passed the theory exam to drive a vehicle in this category. To do this you need to take a total of 12 lessons for 90 minutes of the basic material and an additional 4 lessons of 90 minutes each for the additional (category A2). The test for the theory requires an average score of 70%.
If you pass the theory test, you will have to take a driving test on private property and on public roads. After passing both tests, you will receive an application for a driving license. You must present this request to the local authority within three years of passing the practical test.
Once you have passed your driving test, it's possible to drive vehicles that fall in the category of A2. In some countries, if you have been holding an full A1 licence for two years, you do not have to take another driving test in order to obtain a category A2 licence that permits you to drive motorbikes with up to 35 kW. This is a way to gain experience operating less powerful two-wheel vehicles before moving up to more powerful machines.
If you have a category A2 driving license, you can also drive tricycles if it has a cylinder capacity of up to 125cc, and a power output of no more than 11kW. This category was previously part of the A license. Drivers who were issued with an entire category B licence prior

Motor vehicles with five or more wheels
This includes motorized vehicles that are designed to be used on roads and are used for the transportation of goods or passengers. They must have at minimum two or three wheels that are in contact with the ground and

Motor vehicles that have trailers
The category A2 is comprised of motor vehicles with trailers. These are not vehicles pulled by the driver, but are pulled behind larger vehicles, such as cars. This category includes, for example a tractor towing a trailer, or small trucks designed to carry loads, such as those used by plumbers and painters to transport equipment and other supplies to their work sites. The maximum authorized mass (MAM) in this class, is 8,250kg.
You must pass the theory test of category A1 or possess an entry-level driving license to drive vehicles in this class. You may also need to pass a practical driving test depending on the type of vehicle you intend to drive.
The license you get for category A2 is valid for three years starting from the date you pass your theory test. To keep it valid, you must renew it before the expiration date.
In addition to the categories above, you can be granted a driving license for other vehicles with special requirements. You need a special license to drive a large vehicle (category C), which requires you to know the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.
A car driving licence in category
