Greetings from Changzhou Corn Biobased Packaging! We are thrilled to share some exciting news from the world of sustainable packaging. On September 14th, Walmart announced the launch of its own brand of compostable cutleries, Great Value. This innovative product line, made entirely in the United States, is a 100% commercially compostable alternative to disposable plastic products.

This move by Walmart is a significant step towards a more sustainable future. The Great Value compostable cutleries have been well-received at celebratory events, demonstrating that consumers are ready and willing to make more sustainable choices.

Scott Morris, Senior Vice President of Walmart Food and Consumer Product, and Jennifer R. Jackson, Senior Vice President of Home Essentials Sales, discussed the innovation within Walmart's own brand portfolio and the reasons for providing this service to their customers.

Scott: Jennifer, tell us more about Walmart’s new Great Value compostable cutleries.

Jennifer: We are excited to launch Walmart’s 100% commercially compostable private label cutleries made in the USA under the Walmart Great Value brand. This launch is a great example of our commitment to continue delivering products that meet customer preferences while delivering great value. The product is available starting today at 1,400 Walmart stores across the U.S. and online, and is available in 24- and 48-count packs of commercially compostable forks, knives, spoons and assorted utensils. We hope to expand this product to more stores in the future.

As we continue to integrate recycling across the business, our Great Value compostable cutlery is a clear alternative to single-use plastic. There is a common perception that more sustainable options cost more, which is a barrier for customers who want to save money on options that are better for themselves and the environment. With Great Value compostable cutleries, we now offer more sustainable alternatives at everyday low prices. The 24-piece set is only $1.48, our introductory price, and the 48-piece set is only $2.96.

Jennifer: Scott, can you talk about how Great Value compostable cutlery compares to plastic cutlery on the market?

Scott: Walmart’s Great Value compostable cutlery is made from commercially compostable raw materials, and the items can break down in commercial facilities within 26 weeks, making them a better choice for the environment. It is also very durable because it is elastic and can flex when pressure is applied.

Beyond the technical aspects of the range, the launch also fits well with Walmart's mission to help people save money and live better. As you mentioned, Jennifer, this is a great example of how we can use private label innovation to deliver a more sustainable product at a price point that's even lower than many of the plastic cutlery varieties currently on the market.

At Changzhou Corn Biobased Packaging, we are inspired by such initiatives. As a manufacturer of plant-based starch cutleries, we understand the importance of providing sustainable alternatives to traditional plastic products. We believe that every step taken towards sustainability counts, and we are committed to contributing to this global movement.

We applaud Walmart's initiative in launching their own brand of compostable cutleries. It is a testament to the growing demand for sustainable products and the increasing awareness among consumers about the environmental impact of their choices.

As we continue to innovate and expand our product range, we remain dedicated to our mission of providing eco-friendly, biobased packaging solutions. We look forward to a future where sustainable choices are the norm, not the exception.
